To us here at New Land Pictures this is a precious achievement, our first film festival and our first price, it could not have been a better start for our first production!

Kauhulyhytelokuvakilpailun tämän vuoden tuomareina toimivat monialataiteilija, Terveet Kädet -yhtyeen solisti Läjä Äijälä sekä toimittaja ja Radiopuhelimet-yhtyeen säveltäjä-kitaristi Jarno Mällinen. He valitsivat voittajaksi karjaalaisen Christopher Marinsin ohjaaman lyhytelokuvan Mardröm (Painajainen, Nightmare).
Äijälän ja Mällisen lausunto kuului seuraavasti:
“Finalisteista Mardröm oli ainoa, joka onnistui herättämään aitoa kauhun tunnetta. Tai ehkä parempi olisi puhua inhosta ja vastenmielisyydestä, sillä elokuvan toiminnallinen anti on sadistisen lahtaamisen esittelyssä. Pelkästään tälle tasolle Mardröm ei kuitenkaan jää: sadismin esittäminen sadistisen minäkertojan tajunnan kautta synnyttää niin ambivalentin tunnelman, että elokuva vaivaa mieltä ihan kunnolla.
Suuruudenhullu, sosiaalidarwinismin ja kaikkivaltiaskuvitelmien sävyttämä monologi luo ahdistavan kuvan täysin päälaellaan olevasta todellisuudentajusta ja viittaa siten väkisinkin kouluampumisten tapaiseen yhteiskunnalliseen oirehdintaan.
Jopa Mardrömin naurettavat piirteet – monologin osin korni melodramaattisuus ja tappajan mahtipontinen patsastelu – avautuvat samaan suuntaan: onko niissä, ja koko elokuvassa, lopulta kyse mitättömyyden ja arvottomuuden ilmapiiristä nousevasta suuruusfantasiasta? Pelottavinta Mardrömissä on sen mahdollinen yhtäläisyys nykytodellisuuden kanssa.”

The movie Nightmare is finally finished and had it’s firts showing at a local restaurant in Karjaa. On the 5th of November the movie will be the opening film at a new carnival of horror here in Karjaa.
Today we here at New Land Pictures got information that the movie has been selected to be shown at the horror film festival iikfestivaalit!
Later on the movie will be sent to other festivals, not only in Finland but also around the globe.

We’ve found a way to partially make newlandpictures.net “independent”, meaning that we’ve accepted advertisement on the site. Some posts might have text that is a bit out of context. This is a necessary evil, but it pays the bills.

Nightmare got a song for the end credits. Written and produced by Ian Eric Highhill from Olympos Mons, he has really created a masterpiece 
Nightmare is currently cut and the soundtrack is almost finished. We’re still working on the audio parts and sound effects. People who have seen the work print, really think that each actor is doing a great job especially Sampo Sade, who plays the psychopath

This saturday we’ll shoot the last two big scenes from the movie Nightmare and it ends in a “wrap party”
We’re also celebrating the actor Jenny Hinders’ birthday at the wrap party!
We’ll go into post-production at the end of next month! Stay tuned
